Distance traveled: 220 miles

Paul came home a little early from work today so that we could get on the road as soon as possible. We left home around 4 pm and stopped for dinner in Winchester, Virginia. Overall the drive was quick, easy and uneventful. We are staying overnight in Salem, VA, just outside of Roanoke. At this point in the trip the hotel is a good part of the excitement for the kids!

We arrived at the hotel around 8:30 pm and settled in for bed. While we were working on getting the kids to sleep we found out that the area was calling for 6-8 or more inches of snow on Saturday and that the storm was coming up from the south...

Distance traveled: 538 miles

We ate a quick breakfast in the hotel this morning and got on the road around 8 AM. The first signs of snow appeared by 9. We are hoping to make it to Columbia, South Carolina before the snow gets bad.

We made it through snow, ice and freezing rain on our way to Columbia, SC, where we stopped for lunch. The weather seems to have cleared up a bit... it is just raining now.

The dvd player we borrowed from our neighbor is amazing! With movies, stickers and a few toys, the kids are doing really well in the car!

The highlight of Paul's day today was our trip to the Piggly Wiggly (about 15 miles north of Savannah, GA in South Carolina) to get diapers. The mere thought of its actual existence was enough to send him into hysterics. In case Piggly Wiggly makes you laugh too, here's a picture:

We stayed the night in Kingsland, Georgia, just a few miles away from Florida. We ordered some pizza for dinner and went right to bed.

Distance traveled: 194 miles

We found a Church in Jacksonville, FL and went to Mass Sunday morning around 8AM then got back on the road heading for Orlando. We were so close to St. Augustine, I wish we had made a little detour to see the Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche. We'll have to plan for that next time.

The rest of the drive was uneventful and the skies cleared up as we went further south. When we got to Orlando we stopped at Chipotle for lunch. (Mmmm... Chipotle) and then went on to our hotel.

The hotel was so cool!

It is one of Disney's “Value Resorts,” the “All Star Sports Resort.” The entire complex of motels was done up in sports themes with lots of things for the kids to climb on and play around. (Not that we ever really spent any time there... ok, we did do the laundry once, and played in the pool a bit.)

Then we headed off to MGM...
